The subject of budgeting is interesting. I had never seen a budget book before and found the way media specialist are given lines on a budget was really cool. My husband is a teacher and basically just fills out order sheets. He has no idea how much he has to spend. Maybe he gets his stuff and maybe he does not. When I saw how the library is done in other districts and is probably done in his I know my job will be made much easier. My prior education in recreation administration taught me many of the same things we went over about using the same as what was used the year before. They said to increase it by 10% every year but that was a few years ago and money was not as tight as it is now. I also met with the salesman from Follet and opened a Titlewave account and when I worked with Janet it was easy to find things to order and they are an approved vendor. My district uses School Specialty. I have added links to both vendors below.

e. Collection mapping if I understand it completely is a basic inventory of your collection. A company like Follet comes in looks at your collection and looks and shows you where the weaknesses are in your collection. It could help you when its time to order new books for the teachers and the students.
d.I would arrange my library according to the Dewy Decimal system first because its the most commonly known and it will be the one taught to my students. It also allows the most flexibility in arranging my collection. I would like to arrange my fiction book store style and maybe few other selections
c. I don't think I would change a system that is already in place. If I had to devise my own system it would depend on grade level and I do not feel I could give certain patrons different circulation policies, but I could be more lenient on renewals if a child is slow reader. Periodicals and references materials would not be allowed out as long as other materials. Also new magazines would not be allowed to circulate only older copies would be allowed to leave the library.

Question b
b. I would look at the cultural diversity of the students and find magazines that appeal to their interests and possibly be in their language if the are ell learners . The magazines would be appropriate to their age levels. I would at also consider buying books rather than magazines since my budget will be limited I would rather have material that would last longer. I would like to have a broad range of materials because I would like to reach out to as many students as possible.
